Technological Evolution
The evolution of technology is inevitable as it is a natural desire to find easier and more convenient ways to complete things. As such, our tools and equipment are constantly changing and improving as we look for more ways to bring ease and comfort into our lives. We can see this in our first assigned video where they bring to one of the first tools known to be used by humans. The video progresses until it reaches 2020, showing us the many tools and technology humans have used and improves as time goes on. What this information fails to show us is how people have adapted and learned how to engage with new technology. This is especially the case with written information and the media in which is presented.
As a result, the progression to the second and third videos is appropriate. These videos, which are linked together as a two-part series, describe how people engaged with media and the development of documented information. These videos help explain to the viewer how people gained access and learned to develop skills to critically engage with media. It goes through the different types of literacy such as news literacy, but most important for us as CDM students is digital literacy.
The last two videos provided to us, while intended to be informative, feels incredibly speculative. I found some difficulty with trusting the video from the World Economic Forum upon watching it for the first time. It was not obvious upon a glance as to where they got their sources from but after looking further I was able to find their report and their list of sources. This gives me a sense of credibility but as I am not exactly motivated enough to go so far as to go through them. However this speculation can be applied to our last video where it seems much more like a fantasy rather than informative. There is a level or truth in the video regarding how our technology will be developed and improved in time. However the visual representations provided is very much a speculative representation.
